Special Education Teacher for 2025-2026 - HVA

This is a pool position for the 2025-2026 school year. Hiring decisions will be made as the budget is finalized.

Job Description:

Anticipated Salary: Teacher Pay Scale

  • Implement instructional strategies that stimulate learning and increase student engagement 

  • Create instructional resources to meet the varying needs of students 

  • Collaborate with parents and colleagues to manage coarse goals, curriculum, and materials that enhance the learning experience 

  • Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (or professional development)

  • Host live synchronous sessions that promote a positive learning environment 

  • Analyze student data to prescribe remediation and enrichment as needed 

  • Participate in data analysis meetings to monitor student growth 

  • Collects data and work samples to support documentation of IEP goals; 

  • Documents all contact with parents, collaborations with general education teachers, and interventions with students 

  • Makes modifications and accommodations to K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP 

  • Collaborates with general education teachers to ensure inclusion and success of student in the general education classroom 

  • Collaborates on all progress, semester and grade reports 

  • Provides special education services to students; supports general education teachers and parents with student accommodations to promote the attainment of IEP goals 

  • Communicates with parents and applicable related service staff to ensure that students with special needs are receiving the appropriate therapies 

  • Ensures compliance by holding all IEP meetings prior to the IEP end date 

  • Enters accommodations into school based program to ensure 100% accommodation compliance for all testing sessions

  • Attends school based face to face outings and professional development sessions as scheduled 

 

Other Essential Functions

  • Organizes social and educational activities for students and families, including sponsorship of virtual clubs, outings, marketing events or other extracurricular activities as required; 

  • Travels to testing sites to proctor state exams.

 

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience

  • Valid South Carolina teaching certification in Special Education

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking 

  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum

  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes 

  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization

  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines

  • Ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week

  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, typically 8-4 or as defined by the school

  • Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face to face professional development, student testing, and as required by school

  • Access to reliable high-speed internet

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint; 

  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms 

  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems, programs and curriculum

  • Ability to clear required background check

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Experience working with proposed age group

  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology

  • Experience working in a virtual environment

  • Experience teaching in an online (virtual) and/or in a brick and mortar environment

  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative, Newrow, or other online platforms

Location:

All staff must reside in the state of South Carolina or within 45 miles of the border.

This position is remote with the following travel expectations:

  • Attend local student outing 1-2 times per semester

  • Attend in-person professional development 1-3 times per semester

  • Attend back-to-school professional development in July (1-3 consecutive days)

  • Participate in in-person student testing 

  • Additional details on travel will be provided in the interview process
